The performance of EndoTherm was piloted by Cardiff Metropolitan University at the Llandaff N Block building in Cardiff, UK.
The site is powered by three 115kW Purewell boilers and EndoTherm was installed in September 2017.
Baseline
To run a successful trial on any energy saving technology a comparison period or baseline must be established, this case study follows the guidelines set by the International Performance Measurement & Verification Protocol (IPMVP). Cardiff Metropolitan University has gas consumption data accurate to 30 minute (half hourly) intervals. It is noted that the building is heated in line with use (Monday to Friday) and heating is turned off at weekends.
Comparison
For each month the data from 2016/17 was compared to the same month in 2017/18 using IPMVP protocols. The table below includes compensated heating degree day (HDD) data from a nearby weather station located in Cardiff.
The savings can be quantified by calculating the predicted usage (using the 2016/17 usage data) and the HDD value for each day is used. Predicated usage is then compared with actual usage to identify savings realised each day, the total saving for the monitored period is then calculated by using a cumulative sum (CUSUM) of every daily saving.
