The performance of EndoTherm was piloted by Thames Valley District School Board at two schools; Old North and Jack Chambers Public Schools.
Old North Public School is heated by a traditional space boiler whilst Jack Chambers Public School has primary heating supplied by in-unit BullDog Heat Pumps. As Jack Chamber PS has a secondary heating unit the analysis will focus on the traditional boiler system at Old North PS. EndoTherm was installed in February 2022.
The presence of estimated bills at both sites causes a challenge for Measurement & Verification so a baseline was constructed from October 2021 – February 2022 using weekly actual meter readings and following guidance from IPMVP (Option C). Data was normalized using Heating Degree Days (HDD) date from nearby London Airport (CYXU) at a baseload of 18.5°C.
Inspecting the baselines show notable increases in consumption from October 2020 which coincides with the school districts adoption of ASHRAE guidance to increase fresh air ventilation to minimize the risk of COVID-19. Thus the shorter post-covid baseline, reflective of the current operating conditions, was chosen for the analysis.
The consumption was notably lower during the Christmas period and thus removed from the analysis.
A predicted value for each month in the post-install period (compiled from the trend-line for the baseline data) was compared against the recorded consumption value from the weekly meter readings. Both sites were monitored using weekly meter readings between early February 2022 and the end of April 2022. One week was removed for the march holiday week.

Results
Total Predicted Consumption | Total Actual Consumption | Total Difference | Saving |
---|---|---|---|
8,764 CCF | 7,812 CCF | 952 CCF | 10.86% |
Over the 11-week pilot period the pilot at Old North Public School saved 952CCF. This is 10.86% of total gas consumption. Using a conservative 20% baseload for domestic hot water this is a 13.57% improvement in space heating savings
The pilot at Jack Chambers Public School also showed a saving of 5.27% compared to the historical baseline (6.59% with the baseload removed). The install of EndoTherm was diluted into the secondary heat pump recovery loop and thus EndoTherm was not installed at its optimum concentration. The pilot at Jack Chambers did however save $412.64 over a 10 week post-install period and does not consider further increases on the heat pump consumption which is not possible due to a lack of sub-metering. The two EndoTherm dosed sites showed a combined saving of $1,221.90.
