Minto Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) released their second annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report highlights in October 2022 highlighting their various commitments to reducing their carbon footprint and providing healthier and happier places to live and work.

Minto Apartment REIT owns and operates a portfolio of 32 multi-residential rental properties in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton.

‘Minto has been investing in electricity and natural gas reduction measures at our commercial buildings and multi-unit residential buildings for decades. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we have been piloting and planning in order prepare a road map for the journey to a net zero carbon future by 2050’

Joanna Jackson, Director (Sustainability and Innovation)

Thanks in part to a roll-out of EndoTherm, Minto have been able to improve their energy consumption by 11% and carbon emissions by 13% relative to 2019 baselines.

EndoTherm was initially piloted by Minto Apartment REIT in 3 properties; 2 in Ottawa and one in Toronto with a neighbouring site used in comparison. The 3 sites showed an average of 11.11% savings and was used as justification to roll-out EndoTherm out.

The pilot of EndoTherm also highlights the benefit of considering the wider context of water treatment for multi-family buildings.

As part of the initial project due diligence; water treatment reports for all sites were considered and mechanical upgrades were accelerated offset by future EndoTherm savings. Minto also installed isolation valves at their sites to protect this investment.

‘We are delighted to be a small part of a larger effort of our customers to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their GHG emissions. We are grateful to Minto for giving EndoTherm an initial opportunity to pilot and seeing the benefit of rolling EndoTherm out across their portfolio’

Dale Edginton – Operations Manager – North America (EndoTherm)
